BOTANICAL HEALTH – LYME DISEASE SUPPORT AND TREATMENT

Lyme disease is a world-wide problem with many countries like Australia still not giving it the recognition that it deserves.  Botanical Health’s founder Jane is, a Naturopath and Medical herbalist, with over 20 years’ experience in the Natural health, Industry. She has personally experienced the long journey of healing from chronic late stage Lyme disease and from this it has made her extremely passionate to help others with Lyme. She has developed a Lyme treatment plan and specialised botanical formulations, unlike any others on the market today.  Her clinic is based in Adelaide South Australia, but consultations are available Australia and worldwide via pone and Skype.

So what is Lyme?

Lyme disease is caused by the bacteria Borrelia burgdorferi, but there are other species of Borrelia like mayonii and miyamotoi that cause Lyme.  There are over 300 strains of Borrelia throughout the world which could possibly cause Lyme like illnesses. It is transmitted not just by ticks but by spiders, fleas, mosquitos, certain flies and hosts such as dogs, cats, deer, kangaroos, horses, wallabies, deer, rodents, birds and reptiles can be carriers.

Borrelia can be transmitted from Mother’s to their child in the womb and through the Milk, whilst breastfeeding.

The CBC (Centre for disease control) say that over 300 hundred thousand people contract Lyme each year and this is just in America, who knows the numbers worldwide and those that are missed or undiagnosed.

The Borrelia bacteria that cause Lyme disease are a spiral shape (spirochete) organism that have the ability to penetrate the body’s tissues resulting in a multi systemic infection.

What can Lyme be miss-diagnosed as?

Symptoms can present and mimic conditions such as Multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s disease, Motor Neuron disease, Chronic fatigue syndrome, Rheumatoid arthritis, Lupus, Alzheimer’s disease, Autism and Sarcoidosis.

Lyme Co-infections

Co-infections can be transmitted at the same time Borrelia was contracted or as the Immune system becomes compromised. These co-infections include parasitic organisms like Babesia and Theileria; viral infections like Epstein Barr Virus (EBV), Parvovirus and Cytomegalovirus (CMV), and bacteria’s like Bartonella, Rickettsia, Ehrlichia, Coxiella, Mycoplasma just to name a few.

With the bacteria being able to penetrate most parts of the body and the high possibility of co-infections, the symptom list of Lyme disease is varied, intermittent, numerous and unique for each individual. Lyme disease can cause mild, moderate and severe symptoms and if left untreated it can be fatal.

Getting a Diagnosis

Getting your Lyme disease diagnosis can be often difficult and confusing.  At Botanical Health, we help people by discussing a client’s medical history, symptom presentation and investigating co-infections, immune, inflammatory markers and more. Borrelia testing can be done through private pathology labs (depending on what country you live in) but you need a very sensitive test as Borrelia can be hard to detect.

Treatment

The journey to recovery from chronic Lyme disease will take time and you will need a combination of treatments and medicines. Whether you choose long term pharmaceutical antibiotics or herbal antibiotics the decision is totally up to you, I support and treat people whatever they decide is right for them.   Supporting Immunomodulation, HPA, Mitochondria, herxheimer reaction, reducing any inflammation, enhancing nutritional status, changing internal body environment and having a healthy diet, whilst breaking biofilm and reducing pathogenic load is going to be vital.

Babesia, Bartonella, Ehrlichia, Borrelia, Rickettsia, Mycoplasma species, Mycoplasma fermentans, Q- fever,  C. pneumonia, Cytomegalovirus, Epstein barr virus, Ross river virus, Cocksackie virus, Anaplasma, Yersinia, Chl. Trachomatis and more…

Tonics to Support Lyme disease or chronic infections

The tonics are based on scientific research on how bacteria survive, act and grow within the human body.              They have an antibacterial action to help kill off the bacteria whilst supporting Immunomodulation.

To help explain how these formulation work it is best to explain the mechanisms on how bacteria spread and survive within us to cause chronic re-occurring infections or disease states, whilst being antibiotic resistant.

Planktonic (free floating) Bacteria like to attach and adhere themselves to surfaces and initiate the expression of gene cassettes that make up the biofilm phenotype.  Quorum sensing is where bacteria use a two component transmitter receiver regulatory system to transfer environmental stimuli into phenotypic change.  This signal emitted by the bacteria attracts more to the area and the concentration of the signal continues to rise making a colony of bacteria working together. As a colony they become much more powerful, causing more disruption and disease within the body.  The biofilm (a mucilaginous protective coating) is then built around these colonies making them protected and antibiotic resistant.

The surprising thing is all this can be done in just half an hour!

Therefore these tonics are designed to:

  • Disrupt quorum sensing
  • Disrupt the start of biofilm formation
  • Increase Immune function and modulation
  • Inhibit the growth of bacteria
  • Have a systemic antibacterial action
  • Efflux pump action (increases active efflux of plant botanicals across the cell surface)
  • Antibacterial Synergists

Five tonics were made so they could be rotated around to minimise antibiotic resistance and they are best used with Biofilm busters taken on an empty stomach and detox products (phase 1, 2 & 3) to minimise herxheimer reactions (where symptoms can get worse with bacterial die off).

Personalised tonics can be made upon consultation with Jane from Botanical Health in the clinic or via Skype.  This is great if wanting to target a specific infection/co-infection and wanting to target certain symptoms/inflammation. When treating Lyme disease, it is important to have professional advice.
